Commemoration of International Women Day – 2010
Climate change impacts are already being observed, signaling an urgent need for response measures that minimize current vulnerabilities. With this insight TamilNadu Women Federation commemorated International Women’s day with the theme “Climate change and livelihood of women” on 7th March 2010 at Puducherry.
Nearly 5000 enthusiastic members of Tamilnadu Women Federation gathered in the grounds of Petit Seminar Nursery School with the common cause for fighting environmental pollution and to ensure their livelihood. Women day observed through a public meeting. At the outset leaders of district federation have taken oath under the guidance of Mrs. S,.Selvi, Vice President, TWF . Rev.Fr.Albert Thambithurai, Director PMSSS welcomed the gathering. Ms. Maria Pushpam, President, TamilNadu Women federation presided over the public meeting. The Key note Address was delivered by State Welfare and Co-operative Minister Honorable M.Kandasamy, President of Puducherry counselor federation Mr.Anilbal Nehru, Rev.Fr. A.Xavier, Director, TASOSS, H.E. Arch Bishop of Puducherry & Cuddalore Rev.Dr. Antony Anantharayan, Ms. Kamalini, President, Women Commission, Puducherry presented the women day message Ms. Malathi Mythiri, Editor Anangu magazine gave a special talk on “climate change and livelihood of women”.
Mrs. Arokiaselvi, Secretary, TWF presented the annual report of the TWF. Resolutions with regard to climate change and environmental pollution was passed by the gatherings and was facilitated by Ms.Prema, dput. Secretary TWF. The meeting came to end with the vote of thanks by Ms.Thersa Glory, Treasurer TWF.
